Top 1988

She is charming and has a big voice. All her songs are a huge success and she is the female revelation of the year. Voor Top Patricia answers a couple of questions.

Top: According to the Victoires de la musique you are the revelation of this year; what kind of effect does that have?
PK: I am very happy with it. Actually I already was very pleased with the nomination and that would have been sufficient for me; even if I hadn’t won.

Top: Do you feel that you have succeeded?
PK: You are never completely a success. Maybe you feel better, when you were on stage.

Top: Do you see yourself standing on stage?
PK: Not at the moment, because I don’t have enough songs, but I would love to do it. For me being a singer is performing on stage. You are not a singer because of your albums. You have to prove that; prove that you are not a thing.

Top: Did the success change you?
PK: No I don’t think so. It didn’t change anything in my head. Besides I already sing for a long time. I did it all my life, because that is what I wanted to do. I rather stay simple.

Top: At what age did you start singing?
PK: Very early; at the age of 8. I started in singing competitions and after that I sang at Gala’s and did Cabaret.

Top: Do play an instrument?
PK: No. For the song “Mademoiselle chante le blues” I learned a little bit how to play the trumpet, but that’s all.

Top: Nowadays you live in Paris?
PK: I do have a little apartment in Paris, but I do live in Forbach. There is where my family lives and there I feel the best. I took a little apartment in Paris for the periods that I have to do some promotion. Then that is the most practical.

Top: What do you do when you are there?
PK: When I am in Paris I don’t have much time, because all sorts of meetings are arranged for me. But when I have a moment for myself I go shopping or see a movie.

Top: Do you have many friends?
PK: A couple, but in the group I am very much on my own. When I was young the girls of my age didn’t like me, I sang, so I hadn’t the same interests as they had. For a big part I see older people.

Top: We don’t see you talk on TV much? Is that because you want it like that?
PK: Yes, I avoid that as much as possible, because I have problems expressing me well. That is because I am shy and sometimes I also search for certain words in French.

Top: But you speak French perfectly….
PK: I am bilingual. I live at the border of 2 countries and sometimes I think in German. In my family they talk German. I did make progress, but I don’t have the vocabulary that everybody has and sometimes that limits me. Especially when feelings are concerned.

Top: The friend for you, should he be like in your song?
PK: No not really. I don’t think that everybody likes the friend in my song.

Top: How should he be then?
PK: he has to have a good character and must be charming. And he must be loving.

Top: Did you write some songs for your first album?
PK: No they are all from Barbelivien. But for the next album I hope I can contribute a bit to the arrangements and maybe write 1 or 2 songs myself.

Top: What are your projects for the near future?
PK: At the moment I am very busy with the promotion of “Mon mec à moi” and after that in April is the start of a big tour.
